Photo Journey – Christmas in Rockland

I couldn’t tell you when I first started to love making photographs. I’m not one of those ‘I’ve been taking photos since I was a kid’ kind of stories. It’s been gradual; less than 10 years that I’ve really enjoyed the art. I find the more I shoot the more particular I get about the who, what, when and where of my shots and the more I develop my own style and preferences. Seven plus years ago I really started to make photos that I was proud of. Looking back at those now I can’t stand most of them….funny how that works. 🙂 It was only a few years ago that my daughter started to enjoy taking photos too. She love to follow me around and photograph what I’m photographing, especially at the Farmer’s Markets and Botanical Gardens.

A couple of weeks ago she and I went out for a photo journey with the theme ‘Christmas in Rockland’ in mind. This was our first photo walk and we’ve since decided that once a month or so we will go somewhere in Maine with a theme in mind and just take photos then  come home and look at them together. I love this for two reasons. One  – it gives us time together which I adore and two – it is a great hobby for her to have and perhaps it will develop into more as she learns and grows.

Here are some shots from our photo journey around Rockland.

  1. Elizabeth,
I really like this very much – your photographs are well done and capture Christmas in a coastal town unlike any I’ve ever seen. Because of them, I’ve decided to visit Rockland within the next couple of weeks.

I’m curious – the mussel shell lights in one of your photos – in what store did you photgraph those? I’ve been trying to find them for years.

    Thank-you again.

    1. Hi Marc,

Thank you for your kind words. I’m happy to hear you’re planning a visit to Rockland soon. It’s a great town and has come a long way in the last 10-15 years. I’m lucky to live here.

The mussel shell lights are in the window section of the Island Institute Gallery next to their shop – Archipelago. I didn’t happen to see if they had the lights for sale there but the friendly gals that run the shop would be able to tell you more. 🙂

      Have a great time.

      ~E
