News From the Maine Coast

Recently in the local news I’ve found some fun tid-bits and events going on in my neck of the woods and I thought I’d share what I’d found with you. 🙂

Hope Orchards Hope Orchards, just up the road from us that has become the first apple orchard in Maine to become Eco Apple Certified. Congratulations!

At Hope Orchards you can pick Paula Red, Ginger Gold, Mcintosh, Cortland, Empire, Macoun, Spartan, Northern Spy, Golden & Red Delicious, Golden Russet, Tolman Sweet, and even 4 varieties of pears.

They will be open til October 30th so if you find yourself a wee bit North of Camden Maine stop on in a pick a few, or a lot!

Desserted by Kate Shaffer Black Dinah Chocolatiers – those are 3 tasty words I tell you. If you’ve never had the pleasure of having a chocolate (or a dozen) from BDC you are missing out on a whole lot! If you don’t trust me just ask Martha Stewart and the Smithsonian! My personal favorites are the Lemon, Blueberry Black Pepper, Tree to Sea Caramel, and the entire caramel and Farmer’s Market collections 🙂

Over the last week or so Kate Shaffer, co-owner and chocolatier, has been celebrating the release of her cookbook. With book signings and earlier this week a spot on our local news show “207” making her island famous Orange-Scented Chocolate-Espresso Cinnamon Buns. Can’t wait to give those a try! Check out the video and write down the recipe!

You can pick up your copy of   “Desserted: Recipes and Tales from an Island Chocolatier” at Downeast Books or Amazon.

Farmsworth, Rockland Maine Over the last month or two, well frankly its just becoming more frequent that, Rockland has shown up in some big press places most recently a glowing article in the September issue of Coastal Living. I actually learned about this big article from a Maine newspaper. I’m linking to the article here because the other hits the nail on the head about my wonderful city/town. 🙂
