Maine Seed Company Named Business of the Year!

I was very happy to read today that Johnny’s Selected Seeds was named the Business of the Year by the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce.

Johnny’s has long been one of my favorite places to order seeds from and I LOVE that they are here in Maine. Rob Johnston, who was in 1973 only 22 years old, started the company with just $500! The company is now employee owned and employs over 80 full-time folks and offers over 1,000 seed products. Just last month the company appeared on Martha Stewart with their Quick Garden Hoop (used in the White House Garden). I’ve had my eye on one of these and am seriously thinking about ordering a couple for my garden beds here at home.

On their website you can sign up for their newsletter, order a catalog, order seeds and take advantage of their really handy Seed Starting Date Spreadsheet. They also have a video page that has a lot of useful information, or you could visit their YouTube Channel.

If you have been thinking about ordering seeds or starting a garden I highly recommend you go visit Johnny’s online or if you’re in Winslow stop on into their store. You could even take a tour of the farm July through September at the trail fields on Foss Hill Road in Albion, Maine, 10 miles east of Waterville. I’m thinking I may have to take a trip this summer!

I’m very happy to hear that the Mid-Maine Chamber has recognized Johnny’s with this great honor. Congratulations to everyone  – I look forward to more great seeds and garden tools.
