February gardening

The weather lately has been nothing short of crazy. Here in Maine our two coldest and snowy months are January and February. I kid you not when I say that here on the coast all the snow in my yard is gone. Not a flake remains. Today it got up into the 40’s.

Because it was so warm out (for February…in Maine….) I took the opportunity to do a little garden clean up. I was so excited to discover that under leaf mulch I had parsley still growing and also oregano that was starting to come though the leaves. Throughout the garden I could see the tulip and daffodils starting to poke through as well as chives and garlic. It’s both exciting and troublesome as if it gets cold again my plants are not going to be very happy.
