So it is official. Winter is HERE! Wholy cold this morning!! Looking out at Rockland harbor this morning heading into work was amazing! The whole harbor looked like it was smoking. Well it was actually. The air was so cold (-2 degrees) when I left for work and the ocean water was warmer then that. When this happens….you get sea smoke!
As Ken Waltz from Village Soup reported this morning, Sea smoke is the evaporation fog or steam fog which is formed when water vapor is added to air which is much colder than the vapor’s source; most commonly, when very cold air drifts across relatively warm water. The photo is one that Ken took this morning!
I sure am glad we are not out sailing on the J&E Riggin or the Timberwind with this weather. Just try and imagine fog……but really cold!!
