2009 Golden Globes – Television

December 15, 2009 by Elizabeth

As usual I’m very disappointed NCIS and/or Mark Harmon are not nominated. I’m also very disappointed Jim Parsons and Big Bang Theory were shut out of the comedy category. On the flip side I’m super excited about Glee and that Modern Family snuck in the comedy category; that Jane Lynch cracks me up!

TELEVISION NOMINEES:

Best TV drama series: “Big Love,” HBO; “Dexter,” Showtime; “House,” Fox; “Mad Men,” AMC; “True Blood,” HBO
My pick: Best show on Television is Mad Men- hands down. This show is absolutely brilliant.

Best TV comedy or musical series: “30 Rock,” NBC; “Entourage,” HBO; “Glee,” Fox;”Modern Family,” ABC; “The Office,” NBC
My pick: I’ll have a hard time choosing between Glee and Modern Family. They are both great. Modern Family I think will become the new Friends.

Best actor in a TV drama: Simon Baker, “The Mentalist,” CBS; Jon Hamm, “Mad Men,” AMC; Michael C. Hall, “Dexter,” Showtime; Hugh Laurie, “House,” Fox; Bill Paxton, “Big Love,” HBO
My pick: I have a hard time here too between Simon Baker, Jon Hamm, and Michael C Hall

Best actress in a TV drama:  Glenn Close, “Damages,” FX; January Jones, “Mad Men,” AMC; Julianna Margulies, “The Good Wife,” CBS; Anna Paquin, “True Blood,” HBO; Kyra Sedgwick, “The Closer,” TNT
My pick: Though I love Kyra Sedgwick, I have to go with Glenn Close or Julianna Maargulies. I know, you’d think being such a Mad Men fan I’d go with January Jones, but honestly her character bugs the crap out of me.

Best actress in a TV comedy: Tina Fey, “30 Rock,” NBC; Edie Falco, “Nurse Jackie,” Showtime; Toni Collette, “The United States of Tara,” ; Showtime; Lea Michele, “Glee,” Fox; Courtney Cox, “Cougar Town,” ABC
My pick: I’m actually surprised to see Courtney Cox on this list- the show isn’t that great (even though I watch it). My pick is with Lea Michele on Glee.

Best actor in a TV comedy: Alec Baldwin, “30 Rock,” NBC; Steve Carell, “The Office,” NBC; David Duchovny, “Californication,” Showtime; Matthew Morrison, “Glee,” Fox; Thomas Jane, “Hung,” HBO
My pick: I would have liked Jay Mohr from Gary Unmarried, Nathan Fillion from Castle (LOVE him), and James Roday from Psych to be on this list, but since they aren’t  I’m going with Matthew Morrison.

Best actor in a supporting role: Jeremy Piven, “Entourage,” HBO; Neil Patrick Harris, “How I Met Your Mother,” CBS; William Hurt, “Damages,” FX; John Lithgow, “Dexter,” Showtime; Michael Emerson, “Lost,” ABC
My pick: Though William Hurt did a great job on Damages (Timothy Olyphant from Damages should have been here too) and John Lithgow on Dexter; I’m going with Neil Patrick Harris on HIMYM. I’ll be surprised is Lithgow doesn’t win.

Best actress in a supporting role:  Jane Lynch, “Glee,” Fox; Rose Byrne, “Damages,” FX; Janet McTeer, “Into the Storm,” HBO; Jane Adams, “Hung,” HBO; Chloe Sevigny, “Big Love,” HBO
My pick: Jane Lynch from Glee all the way. If Paula Marshall from Gary Unmarried, or Dule Hill and Timothy Omundson from Psych had been on this list it would have been a three way tie for second with Rose Byrne.

Best TV movie or miniseries:  “Georgia O’Keeffe,” Lifetime; “Grey Gardens,” HBO; “Into the Storm,” HBO; “Little Dorrit,” PBS; “Taking Chance,” HBO
My pick: Little Dorrit or Georgia O’Keefe for me.

Best actor in a miniseries or TV movie:  Kevin Bacon, “Taking Chance,” HBO; Kenneth Branagh, “Wallender,” PBS; Chiwetel Ejiofor, “Endgame,” PBS; Brendan Gleeson, “Into the Storm,” HBO; Jeremy Irons, “Georgia O’Keeffe,” Lifetime
My pick: Jeremy Irons in Georgia O’Keeffe

Best actress in a miniseries or made-for-TV movie: Joan Allen, “Georgia O’Keeffe,” Lifetime; Drew Barrymore, “Grey Gardens,” HBO; Jessica Lange, “Grey Gardens,” HBO; Anna Paquin, “The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler,” CBS; Sigourney Weaver, “Prayers for Bobby,” Lifetime
My pick: Joan Allen as Georgia O’Keeffe

And there you have it – my picks – my opinions. Do you have a favorite pick?
