Did you watch Touch last night?! What did you think? I, for one, will be tuning in when it starts airing March 19th. I tell you I gasped, cried, and then held my breath for 30 seconds all in a 2 minute period. If every episode is as good as the pilot FOX will have another hit on their hands.

Now onto tonight. We’ve got several new episodes but they are unfortunately outnumbers with reruns. Thank goodness we are close to February. Why you ask? Well the Nielsen ratings of February sweeps of course. This year the Feb sweeps are February 2nd to the 29th. During this time all the networks will air new episodes looking for a bigger piece of the pie. You typically see your biggest named guest stars during this time to. Personally I think the whole Nielsen system is flawed and definitely outdated but since on one has come up with a better idea its the rating source networks and advertisers look at. What I think of the system is a whole post on itself but not one for tonight. :)

Tonight I’ll be catching Big Bang Theory and The Finder. I gave Rob another shot last week and as much as I love Cheech Marin (Cheech & Chong and Nash Bridges) and Diana Maria Riva (The Good Guys) I just can’t find the humor in it. Sorry Rob. The DVR will catch The Firm for me (have to save it for the hubster) I’ll probably catch up on some DVR’d shows at 10.  Does anything look good to you?

Line-up for Thursday January 26th…

Fox – American Idol; The Finder
NBC – 30 Rock; Parks & Recreation; The Office; Up All Night*; The Firm
ABC – Wipeout; Grey’s Anatomy; Private Practice
MPBN – Maine Watch*; Maine Calling*; Doc Martin*; Brush and Pen: Artists and Writers of the White Mountains
CW – The Covenant
CBS – The Big Bang Theory; Rob; Person of Interest*; The Mentalist*
TNT – NBA – Celtics at Magic; NBA – Grizzlies at Clippers
FX -  Two and a Half Men* (x4); Archer; Unsupervised
USA – NCIS* (x3); Burn Notice*
TBS – Family Guy* (x2); Big Bang Theory (x4)
A&E – The First 48 (1 repeat, 1 new, 2 more repeats)
AMC – Eraser
BBC America – Top Gear* (x4)

Tonight’s highlights tonight (IMO) are (episode descriptions courtesy of IMDb):

The Finder A Cinderella StoryThe Finder: A Cinderella Story - A NASA scientist needs help finding a woman he met in a bar who left behind a red stiletto, but Walter’s search for a matching show doesn’t come without considerable risk. Meanwhile,  Leo’s family secret is exposed by Willa, who gets into more trouble with the law when she tried to make things right between them.

Big Bang Theory: The Beta Test Initiation - Leonard and Penny develop a system to insure their dates go smoothly. Raj finally finds a woman he can talk to – the virtual assistant on his mobile phone.

The Firm: Chapter 5 –  Ray is tasked to find clues that could help Mitch  defend a gambler who’s been accused of murder; Mitch and Abby make a risky move with a tort case.

With ABC in reruns and me being a fan of Keifer Sutherland I will be checking out the pilot to Touch on Fox. It’s a little odd because the show doesn’t actually start airing until March but they are giving it a trail run – kinda like Fox did with Glee.

The other big-ish thing on tonight is the final episode that Marge Helenberger will appear on CSI as Catherine Willows. Though I don’t watch it much anymore she was the reason I started. Now that she’s done with this show I hope she’ll go back to doing movies or do another TV show. She was great in Erin Brockovich and Fire Down Below.

Also don’t forget there is a new Royal Pains AND a Top Chef Texas on tonight!

So you know what I’ll be watching – what will you?

Line-up for Wednesday January 25th…

Fox – American Idol; Touch
NBC –  Whitney; Are You There, Chelsea?;  Law & Order SVU* (x2)
ABC – The Middle*; Suburgatory*; Modern Family*; Happy Endings*; Revenge

Top Chef Texas: Block Party – The chefs race against time to finish prep work for a meal. Later, they serve up cuisine at a food-drive block party. Guest judge: Cat Cora.

Cooking Canuck - Caramelized Onion & Spinach Olive Oil Quick Bread

I’m really excited to be a part of the Baked Pop-Up (a bake sale in an unexpected place) that is taking place in Rockland next Saturday where all the proceeds will be donated to the Good Shepherd Food Bank in southern Maine. My friend Sharon (check out her blog Delicious Musings) came up with the idea to do a pop up here in Maine – I love it. Below is the press release with all the details.

When I was thinking about what I could make to contribute I went to my current favorite place for inspiration, Pinterest. It’s a wonderful source of inspiration for everything from tasty treats (my YUM board) to DIY projects (my CRAFTY board). I even have one for ideas for ‘My (one day) Forever Home’, one for ‘Manly’,  and even one for ‘I Love Shoes’! Anyway I remembered a recipe I had posted to  my Yum board for Caramelized Onion & Spinach Olive Oil Quick Bread. I thought since most bakes sales consist of sweets (not that there is anything wrong with that) that I would do something savory. A perfect fit. The recipe (and photo) is from Dara Michalski, the Cooking Canuck.

If you find yourself  in the Rockland area on Saturday, January 28th or in Portland Maine on Saturday, February 4th be sure to stop in and pick up some tasty goodies and support a great food bank.

PAYING IT FORWARD: BAKED POP-UPS TO HELP END CHILDHOOD HUNGER IN MAINE

Coming to Rockland and Portland

Mainers with a penchant for sweets are invited to attend the first annual Baked Pop-Ups on Saturday, January 28 at Rheal Day Spa on Main Street in Rockland and Saturday, February 4 at Akari on Middle Street in Portland. Both pop-ups will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  All proceeds from these delicious events will be donated to Good Shepherd Food Bank and help raise a greater awareness for those looking to help Maine’s children in need.

Baked_Pop-Up-Poster-01

Some of the tempting baked goods graciously being donated include cookies from Atlantic Baking Company, cupcakes from East End Cupcakes, brownies from Scratch Baking Co., chocolate caramels from Black Dinah Chocolatiers, Rice Crispy Squares filled with Cajeta from El Rayo Taqueria, and a variety of baked goods from Sweets & Meats Market.  Loyal Biscuit and Planet Dog are making sure tail wagging friends don’t have to go without by donating dog biscuits.

“In New England, Maine ranks the highest for food insecurity among children. At El Rayo we feed people every day and have access to an abundance of food raised right here in our state.  It’s hard to imagine that there are children who don’t,” El Rayo Taqueria Executive Chef Cheryl Lewis said. “I hope that our support, in some small way helps to change what some Maine children face in their daily lives.”

“Child hunger is a huge problem in Maine today and will have a significant impact on our future unless we do more to fight it,” says Christine Force, VP of Development at Good Shepherd Food Bank. “When children don’t get enough nutritious food, they have difficulty learning in school and face physical and emotional challenges. We need to set our children up for success by ensuring they get the healthy foods they need.”

Among the nearly 49 million Americans facing hunger more than 16 million are children. In Maine 200,000 residents are living at risk of hunger, including 1 in every 4 children.

Despite the good efforts of governments, private-sector institutions and everyday Americans, these children still don’t have daily access to the nutritious meals they need to live active, healthy lives.

About Good Shepherd Food Bank:

The largest hunger relief organization in Maine, Good Shepherd Food Bank provides for those at risk of hunger by soliciting and distributing surplus food to more than 600 partner agencies.  Since 1981, the Food Bank has partnered with individuals, businesses and farmers to alleviate hunger and build community relationships.  In 2011, the Food Bank distributed 12.5 million pounds of food to families and individuals throughout Maine. Library Day

Some weeks there just isn’t enough time in the day/week to do all that you’d like to do. Unfortunately my weekly trips to the library has been a give. Earlier this week I was feeling the creative itch so I requested a few crafting books 3 of which came in yesterday along with a cookbook I’ve been wanting to check out.

While I was in line waiting I caught sight of a book called Just My Type – a book about fonts. Uh, hello! I don’t know what it is about fonts that I love, but I love them. Perhaps it’s because I spend so much time online and get bored with the same old same old text font on websites, blogs, even on this blog, and well everywhere when I’m on the computers. Fonts make it fun. Needless to say, I grabbed that book too. Bet you won’t be able to guess what I’m doing this weekend! Now to find someone with a sewing machine that can help me make one of these skirts!

Actually we don’t get a new SNL until the February 4th episode with Channing Tatum (musical guest Bon Iver) and then again on February 11th with Zooey Deschanel (musical guest Karmin).
